ContextFor universities, research centers & graduate schools

The AI research tool your institution can actually sanction

Context works on the sources a student adds. Citations link only to those documents, and an (Author, Year) citation that matches none of them is marked "Needs verification", so supervisors can verify and integrity offices can audit.

The problem you already have

Students are using general-purpose chatbots for literature reviews. Those tools generate plausible text, not lookups: references that do not exist, quotations that were never written, findings attributed to the wrong paper.

Bans are unenforceable, and unsupervised use is unauditable. What departments need is a tool whose output can be checked.

What supervisors and integrity offices can audit

  • The source library — exactly which documents the student added
  • Per-source analysis records: argument, method, findings, limitations, claims
  • Links from each matched citation to its source and the passages extracted from it, with a page reference where one could be extracted
  • Exports with full references — Word, PDF, Markdown; APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard

How Context is different

Built on the student's sources

Analysis and drafts are written from the sources the student adds — PDF, URL, DOI, manual entry, or a Zotero/BibTeX library — not from a web search, and the AI is instructed to cite only those sources. The web is searched only to look up a source's bibliographic details, such as its title, authors and abstract.

Traceable citations

A citation in a generated draft can link only to the student's documents, and opening it shows that document and the passages extracted from it; an (Author, Year) citation that matches none of them is marked "Needs verification". A verification panel lets the student review each section against passages from the sources.

Evidence made visible

Claims are labeled by evidence type (empirical, theoretical, statistical, anecdotal, expert opinion) and confidence (strong, moderate, weak, contested).

Drafts, not deliverables

Outputs are structured starting points the student must revise. An optional review checklist lists what to verify before an output is used.

Suggested policy language (adapt to your regulations)

“Students may use AI-assisted research tools provided that (a) the tool works from sources the student has selected and added, not from a web search, (b) a citation can link only to one of the student's sources, which the student can open, and (Author, Year) citations that match none of the student's sources are marked for checking, and (c) the student verifies and revises all generated text before submission. Use must be disclosed according to departmental guidelines.”
